About Nikk Carmichael Productions
Nikk Carmichael Productions was born out of the closing of Headland Music Studios, which was formerly Continuumusic (same guys, same place, different name). That studio and that partnership had been in operation since 1997 but was closed in 2020 at the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic when restrictions that were introduced by the government to "flatten the curve" caused mass cancellation of all the studio's bookings. As the income disappeared overnight, the decision was made that paying Northern Beaches rent on the studio while being unable to work was untenable and it needed to close down. This all happened prior to the announcement of any stimulus packages.
With the studio gone, there seemed little point in carrying on the partnership. The other 50% of the business, Paul Kolbe is now residing on a farm up North and, though he has said he will help out whenever needed, he'd prefer to do that as a contractor rather than a partner now.
So, another name change! As a sole trader, it seemed easier just to go with Nikk Carmichael Productions as a handle. I know it's not terribly imaginative!
This new venture is mostly an extension of some of the services Continuumusic offered. There are no longer rehearsal spaces available but Live Production and Recording Services will be the primary focus.
Nikk will be available to mix select live shows with full sound and lighting systems, set up and operated and will continue to service the Northern Beaches music scene as he has for almost quarter of a century.
The new recording studio is currently under construction and will offer a far superior space for recording than was ever available in North Curly, though, you will have to commit to a longer drive to get there.
Based in the "cotton capital of Australia", the town of Wee Waa, the project studio will offer the perfect retreat for really immersing yourself in the recording process including full accommodation for visiting artists.
